Fear is something that constricts life. It takes away the joy of living, the freedom of smiling, and the warmth of safety. Yet, fear is nothing but our own negative thoughts creating illusions of darkness. Fear is a haunting and tyrant beast, but only if you believe in the beast. Monsters under our bed scared us as a child. The fear was real to a point that the monsters were as real as the covers we hid under. As we grew older though, we realized that indeed they were just make believe shadows of fear. This song is about the recognizing of your own fears, and the overcoming of them by the simultaneous recognition that they are not real.
This week's song is titled Rumspringa. When I was six years old I moved from the beloved south, up to Indiana for my Dad's job. It was a tough transition as a young boy, yet many great life observations came from it. One of my first days living in Indiana, I was riding through a small village that looked like it belonged in the 1800's. Quickly I noticed that everyone was dressed in black, and riding horse and carriage...they were Amish! For the next three years living in Indiana, I came to learn about the Amish culture and their fascinating ways of living.
Starting every Monday we will be doing something that we have NEVER done before, and are so excited about. Because we have chosen to be a 100% completely independent artist, we have NO RULES! And because we have no rules, we want to give all the Purple People the most honest and real experience with SLO as ya'll can possibly have. When the time came to choose a song for the final episode of #SLOmotion for the West Coast tour, nothing seemed more appropriate for our return to the South than Sweet Sugar Mama.
